Google Rolls Out ‘Preferred Sources’ Feature for Indian Users (Social Media)
Tech News: In a bid to enhance the news search experience, Google has once again introduced a new feature tailored for Indian users. The latest update, called the Preferred Sources feature, allows people to select their favorite news outlets so that articles from these sources appear directly in the Top Stories section of Google Search.
According to Google’s official blog post, this feature has been designed to help users access more stories from the publications they trust most. For example, by setting Jagran.com as a preferred source, readers can view the latest updates from the site at the top of their search results. Users can also choose other trusted local newspapers, regional portals, or even niche blogs as their favorites.
The rollout of this feature has already begun and is expected to reach all Indian users in the coming days. Google has also confirmed that there is no limit to how many preferred sources can be added, and users can remove or modify their selections anytime. Early testing via Google’s Labs program revealed that over 50% of participants opted to follow four or more sources.
Google clarified that while preferred sources will receive priority in Top Stories, content from other credible publishers will still appear, ensuring a balanced news feed.
Industry experts believe that the Preferred Sources feature could significantly impact news consumption habits in India, where readers often rely on a mix of national and regional outlets for updates. By allowing users to personalize their Top Stories feed, Google is not only giving more control to the audience but also potentially increasing visibility for smaller, local publishers who might otherwise get buried under content from larger media houses.
